Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is finally making an unexpected return after being delayed indefinitely two years ago. The popular role-playing video game has gone through several changes in its development, including changes to the publisher, developers, and the game itself.

Paradox Interactive, the new publisher, enlisted The Chinese Room, a studio famous for their atmospheric walking simulators and games like Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, to take on the development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. As a result, there have been changes to the level and art design, and the game now has “a new code base with different gameplay mechanics and RPG systems.”

Set in modern-day Seattle, the game will feature an elder vampire protagonist who has been in stasis for some time. The game’s fall 2024 release means players will get to explore the game’s wintry setting along with the newly awakened character.

The Chinese Room has had their share of troubles over the years, being on the brink of closure in 2017 before being taken over by Sumo Digital. Sumo Digital later found a new owner in the form of Tencent, but The Chinese Room has maintained their development of the game despite all their trials.

Paradox Interactive will be revealing more knowledge about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in January, including more information on the game mechanics, art design, and story for the sequel of the beloved 2004 title. Fans have been waiting a long time for the sequel of this classic, and after all the turbulent shifts in development, it looks like it’s finally coming
