Doing yoga can leave you feeling calm and ready to take on the world, but it can also make you look like you’re part of a mass murder ritual. That’s what happened in Lincolnshire this week, when police received an emergency call about a “ritual mass murder” taking place in the North Sea Observatory.

When the officers arrived, expecting a bloodbath, they found something very different: A yoga class. Yoga teacher Millie Laws was instructing seven students when two dog walkers peered through the window.

Laws said: “They’re [students] laying down with blankets over them, their eyes are closed. It’s very dark in there. I just had candles and little tea lights lit the whole room, and I was just walking around playing my drum. I had a nice floaty top on with large bell sleeves.”

The call had come from a concerned citizen who was “obviously mistaken” and had “good intentions”, according to the police. Even though Laws found the situation entertaining, she did feel for the caller. “It’s a bit surreal and funny,” she said.

Lawss didn’t know that someone had called the police until after the class ended. When the cafe took to social media to assure everyone that they “are not part of any mad cult or crazy club”, they mentioned the incident, saying: “If anyone heard the mass of police sirens in Chapel St Leonards at 9.30pm last night then please be reassured […] They were on their way to the Observatory after someone had reported a mass killing in our building, having seen several people laying on the floor… which actually turned out to be the yoga class in meditation.”

Thankfully, police quickly confirmed that everyone was perfectly safe and unharmed. It’s pretty funny that someone was so alarmed by Laws’ yoga class, but the moral of the story is that you should always do your best to make sure that your yoga class doesn’t look like a mass murder ritual. And always be prepared for the unexpected!
