‘Incredibly egregious’: Protesters line streets in front of DeSantis fundraiser in Cotuit

COTUIT — Around 100 people gathered in the streets of Cotuit on Saturday to protest Florida governor and Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis, who made a fundraiser stop at 51 Putnam Ave. The event was organized by Jade Kelley, who was inspired to host it after seeing the controversy that erupted after it was announced DeSantis was to host a fundraiser on the Cape.

The protestors, some local, some from around the state, gathered to express their disapproval with the governor and all the issues they felt he stands for. Many noted his controversial decisions to host flights that sent mostly Venezuelan migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, as well as his curriculum requirements where schools should teach that slavery had “personal benefits” for the enslaved people. Other issues included were “Don’t Say Gay” policies and more.
