Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian international striker, has been nominated for the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Player Award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been quick to recognize his achievements and appreciation has been expressed via a post on their official website. Osimhen is amongst twelve players to acquire a place on the list of nominees for the esteemed accolade, alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Jerome Alvarez and Kevin de Bruyne.
The twenty-two year old has had an impressive season with Italian club Napoli and was undoubtedly a key contributor towards their success of winning the Serie A title for the first time in thirty years. In addition, he was also the first African to win the Serie A golden boot while he also finished joint top scorer in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 10 goals.
On the news of his nomination, CAF wrote online “The man of the hour, congratulations to Victor Osimhen on this precious nomination!”. There is no doubt that Osimhen is one of Africa’s brightest prospects and has more than proven himself to be a worthy contender for the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Player award. His skill and dedication has been demonstrated on numerous occasions and in many countries, making it appropriate for him to be commended.
Napoli’s success obviously had much to do with Osimhen’s effectiveness as an international striker. Football fans around the world will undoubtedly be hoping that Osimhen can continue to put in stellar performances that he has done so far so that he can secure the Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
Victor Osimhen has certainly left an indelible mark and is approaching greatness. He has already set some records and is sure to be recognised by FIFA for his outstanding contribution to football.
